The Royal Mile after dark
The Royal Mile empties of day-trip crowds by early evening, which is often the better time to walk it — the closes and wynds running off the main street are quieter, and Edinburgh Castle's floodlit silhouette is visible from several points along the way without needing a ticket.
Old Town pubs and live music
The streets around Grassmarket and the Cowgate, a short walk from Nicolson Street, hold much of the city's late-evening pub and live-music scene — a natural next stop after a show that finishes at 9:30 and leaves the rest of the night open.
Leith's waterfront
Leith, Edinburgh's old port a short bus or taxi ride from the centre, has developed into one of the city's stronger restaurant districts, with a waterfront feel that's noticeably different from the Old Town's tourist streets — worth an evening on its own rather than as an add-on.
A quieter New Town evening
For a calmer contrast to Nicolson Street's dinner-and-show format, the Georgian streets of the New Town make for an easy evening walk — wide, straight and considerably quieter after dark than the Old Town's closes.
Combining a day and an evening
Because the Spirit of Scotland Show sits just off the Royal Mile, it slots naturally onto the end of a day spent at Edinburgh Castle or around St Giles' Cathedral, rather than requiring a separate evening trip across the city.

On a stay of several nights, it's worth spreading a seated show like this one, a ceilidh, and a quieter evening in Leith or the New Town across different nights rather than trying to fit more than one into the same evening — each one runs to its own pace, and none of them are designed to be rushed.
